23 September 2008

Yup, that's the birth date of my lil Joshie. Here's what happened on that day.........

8am : I was awakened by my alarm clock. Sat up in bed, contemplating whether to attend Pregnancy Fitball at Fit for 2 at Bangsar Village. However, my arms and legs were still aching from yesterday's Pregnancy Yoga. This is what happens when I go for yoga, I end up with sore muscles the next day. I am really really stiff.

8:30am : Decided for sure that I am NOT going to exercise but will laze around at home till my 39th week doctor's appointment at 2pm. After that I will go to 1U to shop before baby pops and I am confined to the house for 30 days!!!!

9am - 11:30am : Felt as though there was pressure downwards. Hmnn, is baby finally engaged? During last week's appointment, Dr Guna said that baby's head is about 1/3 engaged. So is it fully engaged now???? Nevermind, I will find out later.

11:30am : Oh oh........why is there blood on my panties???? I remember reading that this is one of the signs of labour but it doesn't mean labour will be immediate. Can take up to a week for labour to begin. But to play safe, I think I should call hubby and ask him to accompany me to see Dr Guna. I am still experiencing zero pain. While waiting for hubby, I decided to give my hair and body a good scrub just in case!

12:30pm : Hubby is back. We decided that there is no need to rush to the hospital as I still have no pain. Am only feeling downward pressure. So will go to Desa Parkcity for lunch and at the same time pick up my Medela Pump-in-style.

12:30pm to 1:30pm : Started feeling some cramps when I was wolfing down my Japanese lunch. Hubby was busy snapping pictures of my big belly and I was feeling a bit uncomfortable already. We quickly paid and left for the hospital.

2:00pm : The cramps were more intense but I could still take the pain. I calmly waited for my turn. I was patient #3. Weighed myself and my weight was the same as last week. Good =)

2:15pm: Dr Guna examined me and pronounced that I was 4cm dilated!!!! My goodness, I certainly didn't expect that. I had to be admitted immediately as my cervix was also very thin.

2:30pm: Scooted into the delivery ward, and after this things happen really quickly! I was strapped on to the electronic foetal monitor, given an enema and was shooed into the bathroom to empty my bowels before doctor comes up to burst my water bag. Hubby was running around settling our admission and our room preference.

3:00pm: Water bag was burst. Dr Guna said no time for epidural and he asked if I wanted pethidine? I said no. I asked him how long till baby is out, he said 2-3 hours. I was already 5cm dilated.

3-3:30pm : Still managed to focus on filling up forms. In between, I was also listening to music just to keep my cool.

3:30pm - 5:00pm : The pain got more and more intense. My dilation progressed to 8cm very quickly and before I knew it, I was asked to PUSH. Goodness, how do I actually push??? I don't know! (Till now, I still have no idea how to push). I don't actually remember what happened. All I knew was, I had to push during contractions and in between, I was asking for water to drink and also the laughing gas which actually has no effect. Got really irritated with the midwife when she kept on telling me "push one last time" repeatedly. I told her that she is bluffing me and asks where on earth was Dr Guna. He finally appeared and before I knew it, my little boy was born at 4:59pm. Joshie was 3.37kg and 52cm when he entered this big big world. I was really grateful and thankful to God for a safe and quick delivery. I have heard horrifying stories of long labours, especially for first time mummies and I am so so so grateful that mine was quick.

Swimming at Hwa Xia International

Hubby and I used to bring Joshie for swimming lessons (or Baby Hydrotherapy as they call it) at Hwa Xia International at Plaza Singapura. They also have branches at Harbour Front and Ponggol. Anyway, we have stopped going recently as Joshie was whining during the last 2 lessons. I think maybe the float was a bit too tight and he needs a bigger size?

Joshua @ 8 months old

My little baby is already 8 months old. At 8 months, these are his milestones:

1) Crawls swiftly when placed on the floor. He started crawling at about 6 months.
2) Able to pull himself up to a standing position while holding on to something. Can even let go of one hand. Started standing at 7 months.
3) Says "deh deh", "ma ma", "mum mum" and "nen nen". Said his first word, ("mum mum") when he was 7 and a half months.
4) Wave "bye bye" when prompted to do so.
5) Can climb up a whole flight of stairs.

These are all that I remember at the moment.......
He is now on solids 3 times a day and I have also managed to wean him off his nighttime feeds (hooray!). However, he is still waking up occassionally at night but I am trying to ignore him so that he will fall asleep on his own.

Hello

Baby Joshua says "hello" to all the readers out there. =)
