Our weekend

We had a quiet weekend. Didn't go out at all, coz hubby is away in Europe. He has been away for a week already but my dad was here for 5 days. So another quiet week till hubby returns on Saturday.

I brought Joshie to visit our Japanese friend, Motomi and her baby girl, Rion. Rion is only 2 days older than Joshie. The two babies had fun playing together. And I had a good time chatting with Motomi although we had difficulty conversing. She speaks and understand very little English.
Playing with the toy piano.

Joshua @ 11 months

1) Added a lot of "words" to his vocabulary, babbles to himself non-stop. Lately, he has started calling me "mama" or "mam" again after calling me "nana" all this while.
2) Can clap his hands and do a "half flying kiss". Why half? Because his hand will stay at his mouth and he won't extend it outwards. Also likes to open and close his hands, imitating the hand action from Twinkle Twinkle Little Stars.
3) Increased his solid intakes. For eg, he can now finish one whole slice of bread at one sitting and sometimes, he would gesture for more. Still prefers western food to his porridge. I have stopped cooking fish porridge because it's a torture to feed him.
4) Can stand on his own without support. At times, he would try to take a few steps forward but would topple down again. Not hurrying him to walk, let him take his own time.
5) Understands when we say "no" to him although he would disobey sometimes. And i think he understands the words "wave", "arms up" and "clap" from his YourBabyCanRead DVDs. I noticed that he will do the action of the words before the kids in the DVDs actually do it.

Playing underneath the table

One of Joshie's favourite play area......underneath the table......

And he loves going around the house with his white nappy, as though it's his favourite toy.

Kids just love bubbles

Bubble time at Gymboree.......

Joshie would be crawling around as usual but when it comes to bubble time, he'll be on the mat staring intently at the bubbles. At times, he would be chasing after the bubbles as well.....haha. And one good thing about Gymboree is that they give each child an individual bubble, in addition to the many bubbles floating in the air. The instructor would go to each child and blow a bubble in front of him/her and the child would be able to burst the bubble.

Now toothbrush, what's next?

Joshie's latest toys.......our toothbrush. I sometimes bring him to the sink in our bathroom to wash his hands, and he would grab anything that's within reach. Recently, he has taken an interest in our toothbrushes. Usually, I would put them back immediately but today, I found it so hilarious, and decided to take a picture of him. And he used the toothbrushes to comb his hair......side parting somemore......haih!

Joshie's lunch

Baked fish, mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli+carrot.

Climb, climb, climb.....(part 2)

.....from the high chair onto the dining table, searching for his bread. I got a shock when I came out of the kitchen and saw him on the table. Even with the tray, he managed to climb out. Next time definitely have to strap him too.

Happily eating his bread.

Climb, climb, climb..........

Climbing is Joshie's favourite activity recently, he does that like a zillion times a day and I have to watch him closely, in case he falls down. But most of the time, he has been quite smart, he would slide down to the floor, butt first, instead of diving down head first. Climbed onto the sofa, examining daddy's laptop. And his little head is thinking whether he should climb further up........
And ta-da, he's up!

Two of my favourite photos of Joshie

Taken when he was slightly over 3 months old. See his hair standing up, hahahaha.......

Innovative baby stuff

I bought this "baby seat" online a few months back. Intended to use it when we are back in KL instead of buying another high chair for Joshie. However, PILs decided to purchase an Inglesina chair for him so this "baby seat" has been left neglected in the storage box.

However, last week when I was feeding Joshie his breakfast on his Fisher Price high chair, he pooped. An explosive one.........there was poop on his high chair too so I brought the whole chair into the bathroom and gave it a good "shower". Haha.......so since his chair was wet, I took out this innovative "baby seat" and he made do with it for 2 meals.
This "baby seat" is pretty good.......only problem is the height is unadjustable so I had to use a cushion to prop Joshie up so that the buckles can be fastened.

Having fun with Oscar

Oscar and his parents, Elke and Daniel live on the same floor as us. It's really good having them as neighbours and we usually visit each other once a week, a good time for Elke and I to catch up and for the two babies to play too.
Oscar watching as Joshie plays with his saliva, yucks!
"hey Joshie, you got lots of hair, and they feel so soft. How I wish my hair would grow faster too"

"How dare you touch my hair? I don't like it!!!!"
Oh no, a samseng in the making??? I'm terribly sorry, Elke. My sincere apologies.

He is getting better

After having bad diarrhoea for 3 days and vomitting 4 times, my baby is finally better. He was much better on Sunday and managed to drink 15oz of milk and gulp down nearly 10 tablespoons of food the whole day. His appetite was much better but I didn't dare feed him too much too.

Here's a picture of him taken during lunch today at Shimbashi Soba @ Paragon. He has lost quite a lot of weight (he seems lighter and pants also looser).

And here, he's posing like a samseng. One leg on the chair and biting on a chopstick.

Due to his diarrhoea, he had very very bad diaper rash. So we made sure he was diaperless for an hour in between his naps. As a result, hubby and I had to clean watery poo many, many times =)

My baby is sick

Joshie has been having diarrhoea since Wednesday. Brought him to a paed, who diagnosed him as having stomach flu. He was given medicine for his diarrhoea but he really hated it. Was a torture feeding him the 3.5ml and hubby and I had to pin him down in order to get the medicine down his throat.

Just when I thought he was getting better (no more diarrhoea on Thursday morning), he started vomitting after he woke up from his afternoon nap at 3pm. I think he threw up 1/3 of his lunch in his cot. I still observed him first and thought he didn't need to see a doctor yet. But after he threw up practically all 8oz of his 4pm milk, I knew he needed a doctor. So we rushed like mad to KinderClinic at Paragon cause they don't accept patients after 4:30pm. It was already 4:23pm by the time I buckled Joshie in his car seat. While driving, I called KinderClinic and told the nurse that we really need to see the doctor although we can only arrive about 4:45pm. Also called hubby who said he will meet us at the clinic.

Well, doctor said he had acute gastroentritis. So to prevent him from throwing up, they inserted a supporsitory ( don't know if I got the spelling right) at 5pm and we were supposed to insert again at 1am and 9am the following day. Doctor warned us that if he still continues throwing up, we'd have to bring him to the hospital. So anyway, being optimistic parents, we thought he wouldn't throw up already. Well, he threw up his dinner at 7pm and we were still calm, thinking that the medicine wouldn't take effect so fast. He still had a good appetite and whinned when I stopped feeding him. But I was just following doctor's advice to reduce his food portion by half. So at 8pm, I only gave him 4.5oz of milk which he drank as though he was famished. And right after I pulled the empty bottle away, he threw up all of his milk! I just stared at all the liquid gushing out of his mouth and then called for hubby. Hubby walked in and said "let's just go to Mt Elizabeth or Gleneagles".

To cut the long story short, we packed our necessities and walked into the lift. Then hubby asked if we are overreacting and we should just wait and see. After all, I don't think the A&E department will call a paed since Joshie still looks fine. Most probably, he will be seen by a normal GP. So we went back into our apartment again and put him to sleep. It was about 8:45pm then. He didn't even wake up when I inserted the 1am supp into his butt. He slept through the night till about 6am this morning. I think he woke up because he was hungry. But I only fed him water, which he drank greedily. Then he went back to sleep again till about 7:30am.

So far, he looks allright. Maybe a little lethargic coz he has not been eating well. He gave us a scare when he went all limp on his highchair this morning after breakfast. But he was just sleepy and was dozing off on his chair. Thank God he is almost well now. He even gave us his usual cheeky look before his bath today and played with his saliva too. And no more vomitting today! =)

Family time

Last weekend, hubby had a bad, bad backache. Bad until he couldn't bend down. I asked him to go for "tui na" but it didn't help. So he applied Yokoyoko religiously and rested a lot at home. Since we didn't go out much, we decided to have some fun time at the pool. Joshie played with hubby while I practised my breast stroke =P

Joshie & mummy, before we went into the cold cold water.

"Aiyo, take picture again?" -slaps face-

"Hi everyone"

Joshie @ Gymboree

Here are some snapshots of Joshie at Gymboree. We switched gyms coz the timing at JWT Kids Gym clashes with his afternoon nap. Anyway, I think I prefer Gymboree except that there's no swing time here. First task of the day - crawl/climb up to the top and slide down.........

In the tunnel

Crawling, crawling and crawling.......

Looking intently at the instructor who was singing "twinkle, twinkle little star", one of his favourite songs............

Looking at the colourful parachute..........
