Joshua @ 20 months

Time really flies...........my little boy is already 20 months old. Another 4 more months and he turns 2!

His vocabulary is improving. His recent new words include : jump, run, rabbit, zebra, pour, drink, please, carry....... Hmmn, I really have bad memory. Can't remember the rest.

Anyway, I brought him to the paed last week for his flu vaccine. Paid $40 for the vaccine which also includes H1N1. Thank God he does not suffer any adverse effect from the vaccine. Hmmn, careless mummy forgot to take down his weight and height measurements from the doctor. However, I vaguely remember that the measurements have not increased significantly.

This month, his significant milestone is feeding himself with cutleries. Previously, he was able to eat finger food on his own but in recent weeks, he has started using the spoon to feed himself yogurt. A week ago, he continued feeding himself with oats, porridge, noodles and rice. It's really messy and I need to clean his face and hands thoroughly after meal times. My boy is getting more and more independent! A picture of Joshie eating his dinner. Baked salmon and steamed sweet potatoes & green peas.

Oh, and just for laughs, here's a picture of Joshie playing with his toy dog. He pushed the dog vertically up the wall and commanded the dog "up, up, up, up, up"! Haha.

Conquered his fear

This is a backdated post.

Actually, this happened 2 weeks ago but I have completely forgotten to blog about it.

We were at an amusement arcade at the mall opposite and Joshie was busy "pretending" to drive the cars. =) And there was this girl who was on the merry-go-round, right next to the car. She finished round 1 and begged her daddy for another round to which the father agreed. All this while, Joshie has been taking quick, short glances at the merry-go-round. The father must have noticed cause he came up to me and asked if Joshie would like to ride on the merry-go-round too since there were 2 extra horses.

Well, Joshie has always cried each time we put him on a kiddy ride. He likes to sit in them when stationary but would cry when they start to move. But anyway, I thought I'd let him just try again. And I am glad I did. He did fuss a little when it started to move but his whines turned to squeals of delight. He held on tight and smiled throughout the whole ride! Mummy is proud of you, Joshie.

On another note, we'll be back in KL next Thursday. For just a few days. After that, we'll be flying off elsewhere for a long 2 week holiday! So I'll be MIA for a while! =)

Father and son

Although Joshie hardly sees daddy during weekdays, he still loves his daddy to bits. He gets excited when daddy comes home from work and would be really "hyper" during that short time he has with daddy before he is shooed off to bed. And in recent months, he seems to know when daddy is away for a business trip. Last month, he cried when hubby left for Sydney+Argentina. And coincidentally, when his daddy is not around, he falls sick and does not sleep well. Is it just a coincidence? Or is his little body really missing daddy so much till he falls sick?Well, I really don't know although I'd think it's just a coincidence.

Here's a picture of Joshie and his daddy. It was only 7 plus am, and Joshie had just wandered into our room. He climbed onto the bed and started playing with daddy's face. Even kissed his daddy a few times but I wasn't fast enough to capture that shot. Isn't my little boy so affectionate?

Everyday with Joshie (part 2)

Hehe, a continuation from my previous post. What else does Joshie do at home?

Take off his T-shirt when he feels like it.

Plotting how to mess up Mummy's drawer.

Walk around with his backpack. He insists on carrying it around the house.

My cheeky monkey

This boy of mine can really climb. He actually started climbing up chairs and beds at 10 months plus, before he could walk. Climb, climb, climb.........like a little monkey. Anyway, I was quite shocked this evening when I saw him climbing up this rope thingey. I don't know what you call it, but by looking at the pictures, I guess you'll know what I mean.

One leg on the 2nd "step" and the other leg trying to reach for the third "step".

Went to the third and fourth "steps". Still climbing steadily. I held on to his bum-bum but he got upset and pushed my hand away.

See my cheeky standing tall on the highest "step". He didn't want to get down and was upset when I carried him home for dinner. Was screaming and struggling to get out of my grip.

My Mother's Day

Guess how Joshie wished me? By pooing on his pillow!!!!!!!!!!! And it was watery poo. Of course it seeped into the pillow, so I had to wash both the pillow and the pillowcase. But I didn't scold him. I knew he couldn't control himself coz he wasn't feeling well. It was partly my fault coz I left the pillow on the floor while I was looking for a clean diaper.

I spent my morning changing his bedsheets and washing vomit stains. Joshie had vomitted quite a bit of milk the night before. He was down with fever since Thursday and developed a cough on Saturday. We were quite worried when he was still feverish on Sunday (day 4) so we brought him to see the doctor. Doctor said it's viral infection and prescribed him some antibiotics. Also checked him for HFMD. Luckily no blisters and ulcers! After seeing the doctor, we had dinner at Nogawa, Concorde Hotel. The food there was pretty good but I wouldn't go back again as I felt it was too expensive.

Ok, so what did I get for Mom's day? Hubby bought me a Mother's Day gift set from Crabtree & Evelyn (picture below).I normally wouldn't buy their products as I feel they are a too pricey. How did Joshie contribute? By telling the salesgirl "more, more"............he was asking for more samples for Mummy! Haha.....they managed to get 4 bottles of sample body wash and moisturisers for me! And hubby also bought me my favourite chamomile tea and a tin of strawberry cream cookies. The cookies were so delicious that I finished them all by myself in 3 days! Gosh, such gluttony!

Oh, and hubby taught Joshie to say "Happy Mother's Day".....=) (beaming from ear to ear)! He couldn't pronounce "mother's" clearly but it was like sweet music to my ear! He also wished his 2 grandmothers and I bet they were both floating on cloud nine too!

Everyday with Joshie

It's not easy to entertain a hyperactive 19 month old. He loves to go out but we can't be going out all the time right? I feel that I spend a lot of money each time we go out, mostly on food so that's not good for this weight-conscious mummy. Do you know that I actually weigh myself a few times a day? LOL! Since I don't really have the chance to exercise, I need to control what I eat during the weekdays. Moreover, hubby and I spend our weekends indulging in good food.

Ok, so back to my cheeky. Other than playing with his toys and watching tv, he'd entertain himself with normal, everyday household items.

I was drying the bed sheet on the clothes rack. Nothing extraordinary right? But to cheeky it's a play tunnel. He had fun going through the tunnel and even played peekaboo with me.

This is the brush that I use to clean his milk bottles. He managed to fish it from the dish drainer and proceeded to brush his chair.

Cheeky always asks me to carry him to the light switches and he loves to switch the lights on/off. I will only do so when I need a certain light on/off. Of course he gets upset when his wish is not granted but I firmly told him that's the way life is. Learn to accept that you won't get everything. This morning, he learnt that he can actually use a pole to switch on/off the lights!!!!

Sticking cotton buds into the littles holes found on the safety lock.
So now you know what Joshie does at home huh?

The joys of being a mother

.............watching him giggle happily as daddy turns him upside down!

Listening to him chattering away.

Inhaling his sweet baby smell when he lays his head on mummy's chest.

Looking at him shake his bum-bum and waving his arms to the beat of the music.

Watching him banging the pots and pans loudly with a stainless steel spoon.

Getting commands from a 19 month old to switch on the tv by pointing to the idiot box and saying "teet".

Listening to him attempting to sing the songs from the children's CD.

Him dragging mummy to the door and say "kai kai".

How he immitates daddy by picking up a "teeny weeny" piece of dirt from the floor and he would then say "dirty" before commanding mummy to throw that piece of dirt.

Looking on happily at how sociable and comfortable he is with strangers to the extent of waving at them and blowing kisses.

And many many more......but I am ready to hit the sack, so Happy Mother's Day everyone!!!

Strong willed child

Current favourite words are "no" and "no need". At a tender age of 19 months, he already knows what he wants and would protest when things don't go according to his liking. We have been patiently explaining to him that he won't always get what he wants. Have told him umpteen times that he is too young to decide what he should/shouldn't do and thus, he has to listen to Mummy & Daddy. Yet, he still tries to assert his demands and would kick a fuss when we don't give in to him.

That aside, he can be a really good and obedient boy at times. I sometimes bring him to the toy store when we are at the mall and let him roam free in the store while I quickly browse through the toys. Compared to other kids, he rarely throws a tantrum when we have to leave and he obediently puts everything back. Even when I ask him if he wants a certain toy, he'd decline by saying "no" or "back back" (meaning to put back the toy). I guess he is still at the age where he won't demand for toys so I'd better enjoy this phase first before he starts telling me he wants this and that!
